Testreading

I have been test reading for some people. It's like a gamble. You can't read reviews or ask your friends for advice. I have been lucky not to have some complete garbage though quite recently I almost dumped a test read because I didn't like the beginning. I pushed through and it got better but I'm still not sure if I would have chosen it myself. Understandably I hesitated before taking another testread. But it was the jackpot! I really do enjoy the book I'm testreading now. Who needs bookshops when you can testread books for free?

To wrap it up, here are my tips for test readers:

1. Be sure, that the book is in the genre you like, doesn't have any triggers and so on. Don't be afraid to ask the writer about the length of the book, if they have a certain deadline and so on. It is better to know those things before you commit. And, before you say yes, be sure that you actually have time to read.

2. Facebook has a lot of literature-themed groups. These are good places to find a book to test read.

3. good feedback contains both good and bad. Only praising doesn't help to improve anything, but only roasting can give the poor writer depression. Balance is the key!

4. If you are a writer yourself, test reading for somebody else is a good way to get the favor returned.
